Background

Josh is known as an innovator and iconoclast in marketing circles. He has been an early advocate of digital marketing and social media, creating some of the first campaigns for blue-chip global consumer brands. His work has served as the playbook for cultural marketing on a grand scale. Josh helped Toyota launch its youth-oriented Scion brand, developing a strategy for perhaps the most comprehensive integration into youth culture in recent history, creating partnerships with dozens of culture-moving DJs, designers, event promoters, street artists, and media outlets. He served as head of global brand partnerships for Linkin Park, helping the band create collaborations and endorsements with Mercedes-AMG, Intel, and State Farm. He shepherded Mazda into social media, launching its presence on Facebook and Twitter, and produced a national music tour in partnership with Universal Music artist Mayer Hawthorne. He enabled Dr Pepper to become a leader in e-sports through a partnership with Major League Gaming. He gave 7UP the framework to become the soda brand for the EDM generation. He helped the organizers of Coachella build the nation’s largest and most significant music festival. His work has been highlighted in Forbes, Brand Week, Advertising Age, Wall Street Journal, GQ, and Motor Trend, among others, as well as the books Mind Your Xs and Ys: Satisfying the 10 Cravings of a New Generation of Consumers, The Power of Real-Time Social Media Marketing, and Coolhunting Digital. His company was named a Purple Cow by bestselling author Seth Godin. Josh was previously a music journalist and founded a music management company. He began his career writing about hip-hop for such publications as the Source, Vibe, and XXL. Josh graduated from UCLA with a degree in Linguistics and Psychology, and earned a certificate in Business Management from USC’s Marshall School of Business. He lives with his wife, Christie, and their son Justin, in Marina del Rey, CA and enjoys yoga, biking, and tennis. He wishes he were better at tennis. Josh has hosted the Rebel Radio podcast since 2015, featuring interviews with artists and entrepreneurs who are shaping youth culture.
